Health care administrators need to understand fundamental concepts of health and disease in order to support the delivery of health services in contemporary health care organizations.
In this learning block, students examine notions of health and disease, determinants of health, and measures for evaluating health status. They consider how individuals’ needs and expectations related to health may vary, and why it is important for health care organizations to recognize the diversity inherent in any patient population. In addition, students examine models of health care delivery and consider the implications of conceptions of health and disease for the utilization of health services in the United States.
